Rood took over a team that under a previous coach had
only eight wins in three years, including an 0-10 mark in 2005.
During his time as an
assistant at Belle Vernon Area, Coach Rood has been a part of staffs that have
captured 9 conference championships, made six appearances in the

(winning in 1995 and losing in 1996 & 1999).
In 2002, Rood
stepped away from coaching and joined the then NSN Sports Network as a
color commentator. He also worked for MSA Sports.
Coach Rood served as the Head Coach of the Pittsburgh Passion (semi-professional women's football team) in 2004 -
guiding them to a 6-2 record in the NWFA.
Additionally, in 2006 and 2007 he served as an offensive and defensive consultant for the Passion, as they compiled a
21-1 record and captured the 2007 NWFA National Championship.
